Other translations read slightly different but say the same. Whoever shows mercy to the poor lends unto the LORD. If we give to the poor, we are giving to the Lord. There are many poor around this world and I know I cannot reach them all. I can only reach those which are in reach.
When was the last time you gave to a worthy cause? When was the last time you gave to the poor? Jesus said, "The poor you have with you always."
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Orphans need help. Widows need help. We must give of our abundance for God has surely blessed us with more than we need. We are wasteful with what he has given us.
The second part of the verse which was posted at the beginning of this article is and that which he hath given will he pay him again. The LORD will repay us in what we give.
Have a generous heart. Give what you can to those who are in need. Giving does not always involve money. Sometimes a hug or lending an ear to someone, will make all the difference to that person.
